Students showcasing their work at UWIC Cardiff Design Show will be going all out to impress with a work placement at the eastlake design partnership (edp) up for grabs and the opportunity to work on some high profile projects.

The leading strategic workplace design and consultancy firm has an office in Cardiff Bay and has decided to support the UWIC School of Art & Design summer exhibition for the second time, with the work placement , the first opportunity for an under-graduate to join the team.

Philip, founder and CEO of the Cordless Group is a consultant, commentator and researcher on technology and workplace futures and has pioneered research into the impact of new technologies on work, the work process and workplace. He has worked with organisations such as Ernst & Young, Allen & Overy, GlaxoSmithKline, Jones Lang LaSalle and Ericsson on future workplace concepts based on emerging cordless technologies. Philip has also spoken at conferences around the world and authored a series of papers and books on workplace, technology and design issues.

Successful design firm to support talented students

edp_uwic.jpgTalented young designers at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC) are being supported by the highly successful Eastlake Group thanks to an exciting sponsorship deal announced at the Cardiff Design Festival.

The Eastlake Design Partnership (edp), part of the Eastlake Group, will be collaborating with UWIC’s Cardiff School of Art & Design to support, nurture and promote new design talent.

The partnership with design consultant and workplace strategy specialists edp sees them as sponsors for the New Designers exhibition in London in July - which is a very important platform for young designers to show their work, a placement scheme where selected students will carry out work experience at the Eastlake Offices, and a special award for students involved in a sustainability project. Design Festival matches established designers with new graduates to learn about portfolios, pitches and presenting a CV.

cdf-huw.jpgA special Portfolio Clinic organised as part of the Cardiff Design Festival has seen established and experienced designers from across Cardiff giving advice and guidance on presentation, pitching and portfolio layout to this year’s design graduates.

The event, held at Cardiff Audi’s state of the art showroom at Cardiff Gate, saw more than 20 of Wales’ leading design company bosses and creative directors matched with graduates from across the design spectrum, including interior architectural, graphic communications and design for interactive media. Eastlake Group adds to expanding team in Barry

The £34m turnover Eastlake Group has appointed two new experienced members of staff to the expanding eastlake commercial interiors sales and design team in its Barry office.

new-apps1.jpgThe new additions to the sales team are Business Studies graduate Andrew Hill from Swansea, a former Business Development Manager with Tidal Exhibitions; Neil Hallam, an experienced Area Sales Manager and Interior Design Graduate previously with Richard H. Powell & Partners; and Leah Hughes a 3D Design graduate who joins the team from commercial interior design practice Saspirella. They will be responsible for growing the group’s UK-wide workplace services and products business in Wales, ranging from design, interior construction plus workplace relocation and furniture provision to integrated audio visual systems. The Group has formed 4 new registered businesses, namely; Eastlake Commercial Interiors, Eastlake Design Partnership, Eastlake Facilities Services and the recently acquired CM3 business in Northern Ireland. To coincide with the restructure, the Group has also unveiled a new corporate look working with the brand support agency NB Group – the development of the Group’s identities reflects the individual personality of each business, whilst maintaining its connection with the parent brand – the Eastlake Group. Eastlake Group front national workplace innovation seminar UK businesses were educated on the link between workplace design and innovation when they attended the Workscape Innovation seminar today (Tuesday Oct 10), held at Bene PLC in London.

The Eastlake Group together with the University of Salford’s Centre for Facilities Management fronted the impressive seminar which also featured a keynote address from IBM’s Andrew Carey.

The seminar introduced the latest thinking on the ways in which the workplace supports innovation, stressing the need for organisational transformation and for the development of FM processes for business success.

Firm secures top floor of Glasgow’s Aurora building

Leading Scottish law firm Burness has secured the top floor of Glasgow’s much awaited Aurora building for its new state of the art Glasgow office. The Edinburgh team will continue to operate from Lothian Road.

It is expected that the firm will take up residence at 120 Bothwell Street during February 2007. Burness chairman Philip Rodney commented: “This is a bold move for Burness. We have experienced enormous growth over the last eight years. Our business is now split equally across Glasgow and Edinburgh and had been looking for new offices for the last couple of years. Our priorities were to find space that offered us a clean sheet in terms of working practices. The Aurora is by far the best office premises in Glasgow, it satisfies premier league expectations and reflects the substantial and ambitious growth planned for the firm during the coming years.”

The 17 500sq ft office will accommodate around 90 staff initially and has the capacity to accommodate up to 110 personnel. Burness has appointed design consultant and workplace strategy specialists - eastlake design partnership (edp), part of the Eastlake Group - to create an inspirational and effective working environment for employees and state of the art surroundings for clients.
