edp support new talent
Students showcasing their work at UWIC Cardiff Design Show will be going all out to impress with a work placement at the eastlake design partnership (edp) up for grabs and the opportunity to work on some high profile projects.
The leading strategic workplace design and consultancy firm has an office in Cardiff Bay and has decided to support the UWIC School of Art & Design summer exhibition for the second time, with the work placement , the first opportunity for an under-graduate to join the team.
The exhibition is a showcase for third year students with the best work displayed at the UWIC Howard Gardens’ site, and was open for public view from 9th June.
“We are delighted to have eastlake’s involvement with the School of Art & Design Show, and it is fantastic they have come on board to help nurture, support and promote new design talent,” comments Patrick Hannay, UWIC ARt & Design programme director. “Thanks to eastlake’s sponsorship of the Show has been raised and one lucky designer will be rewarded for all their hard work with a work placement and the opportunity to put all they have learned into practice.”
edp is on the look-out for an innovative designer and whoever catches their eye in the design exhibition will get a summer work placement and the chance to learn about workplace design.
Huw Moseley, managing director of edp said “not only are we looking for someone who produces a high standard of work but also an individual who is dedicated, hardworking and enthusiastic. The person chosen will spend a period of the summer at the hub of the business, learning about workplace design and will work on a number of high profile projects. It is a placement that will provide hands on experience and the chance to learn about the working design environment.”
edp also offer an award for the highest performer in the ‘Climate of Design’ exam at Interior Architecture UWIC. The exam tests students’ knowledge on ecological strategies and remodelling buildings for global climate change - and edp are delighted to announce that Siwan Geraint of Llanfyllin, Powys as the 2008 award winner.
“For 15 years, Interior Architecture at UWIC has been driving home the issue that to be ecologically responsible, remodelling existing buildings rather than new build, is where the focus of attention should be. For that period we have run a serious climate change impact curriculum, and we are hugely pleased that edp have given that curriculum a further boost in importance by being willing to give an annual award to the highest performing student in the exam for that part of the course’s work.”
As a result of the eastlake design partnership’s involvement with UWIC they will have a positioning on the UWIC stand at the New Designers exhibition in London, which is a platform for young graduate designers to showcase their work. The exhibition that attracts 17,000 visitors has been running for 23 years amd features the work of over 4,000 graduates.
